Phoebe and Simon's destination wedding was an absolute dream. Our bride's wedding gown was out of a fairytale. Her heart-shaped, lace bodice billowed out from her waist into a stunning cloud of tulle while hair cascaded down loosely to one side, held back by a creamy-white peony. Phoebe's bridesmaids wore long, strapless, pale-pink dresses that mirrored the blush garden roses in their bouquets.
The day began with a Chinese tea ceremony. Phoebe dawned a stunning ruby-red, traditional, tea ceremony dress lined and patterned with bright gold. It was so eye-opening and beautiful to see this moment of deep respect, honor, and love. While the newly-weds to be offered their elder family members cups of tea, they gratefully accepted tokens in return.
Afterwards, the Chinese traditions continued with the bridesmaids games, where the groom played to win the approval of Phoebe's friends in order to be able to marry her. This may be my new favorite wedding tradition. It feels universal. The approval from a girl's closet group of friends is an unwritten yet vital step toward "I do" in so many different cultures. Men, take note, you must prove yourself to your girl's best friends in order to win the honor of making her your bride!
After the tea ceremony and the games, the ceremony began. Porcelain hued rose petals lead our bliss couple toward the water's edge, where they stood under a hand crafted, wooden chuppah completely covered in snow-white roses, hydrangeas, and Phalaenopsis orchids, along with a touch of pink roses, eucalyptus, and sprigs of curly willow.
Following the ceremony, guests enjoyed an impeccable, island-inspired, sit-down dinner by Chef Tiffany of Maui Catering Services. The table was situated on the lawn of Kukahiko Estate overlooking the Pacific ocean, covered by a sheer, sandy-gold canopy. A cluster of tiny satin roses ran along the center, while gilded vases bursting with white, blush, peach and crimson florals garnished the median of the long table.
We had so much fun learning about the Chinese wedding traditions and loved being able to design Phoebe and Simon's destination wedding while intertwining their family's heritage and customs. One of our favorite aspects of designing this wedding was Phoebe's love and desire for flowers, a passion we at Bliss share with fervor. Being able to devote so much energy to her floral wishes was one of the highlights of our year so far. Thank you so much, Phoebe and Simon, for putting your faith and trust in Bliss. It truly was an honor.
